Seychelles President James Michel met here Friday with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie, saying Liang's visit will enhance the friendly and cooperative ties between the two nations and the two armies.
Michel, also the country's defense minister, said Seychelles attaches great importance to Liang's visit, the first by a Chinese defense minister since the two countries established diplomatic ties 35 years ago.
Michel said Seychelles and China maintain friendly relations and frequent high-level visits and that bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economy and other fields has been deepened.
Under the new international circumstances, the common goals of benefiting the two peoples and safeguarding world peace have brought the two countries even closer, Michel said.
He said Seychelles' government will, as always, stick to the one-China policy and is willing to work with China to contribute to regional and world peace and stability.
For his part, Liang said China and Seychelles have maintained friendly ties over the last 35 years.
The exchanges of visits between leaders of the two countries have helped them reach broad consensus and promoted bilateral cooperation in all fields, he said.
China highly appreciates Seychelles' adherence to the one-China policy and is willing to make joint efforts with Seychelles to push forward their bilateral relations, Liang said.
He said the Chinese army will work with its Seychelles' counterpart to promote cooperation and exchanges in army building and military staff training and work vigorously for the further all-round growth of China-Seychelles relations.
On the same day, Liang also held talks with Seychelles Minister for Home Affairs, Environment, Transport and Energy Joel Morgan and Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam.
Liang emphasized the traditional friendly exchanges between the two peoples and the smooth development of the bilateral relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 35 years ago.
He reiterated China's willingness to advance the friendly cooperation between the two armies.
Morgan said his country appreciates China's support for Seychelles on army building and personnel training.
Seychelles treasures the friendly ties with China in the defense field and is ready to make joint efforts with China to further explore the potential of cooperation and promote the relations between the two armies to a new level, he said.
Adam said that China is a great friend of Seychelles, adding that China always sticks to the path of peaceful development and has made important contribution to the maintenance of stability in the world.
He told Liang that Seychelles highly appreciates China's stance that all countries, big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are equal members of the international community.
